Friendly atmosphere, helpful staff! Thank you Bernie and Maria. Location is a minute from the beach albeit not for small children, somewhat big waves and a bit rocky. Good things other beaches are minutes away. Rooms are good and tidy maybe a slight bit short on everyday supplies. Love this place 4.5 stars for us.

First, let me just say I never stayed overnight here, what I did required more trust than booking a place for myself because it was booking a place for our dearest friends. My husband and I got married in 2012 and we wanted to have four of our closest friends come stay with us on the North Shore for the wedding, but our place was too small so we checked out every possible accommodation. Finding Kalani Hawaii was like hitting the jackpot! The rates are ridiculously affordable by Hawaii's standards, the photos were gorgeous, and the trip advisor reviews impeccable (compared to other hostels in the area, I think we dodged a bullet there) so we took a chance. Even though it's private lodging and they're very guarded about their location, when we registered our friends as guests and brought them there it was like something out of Fern Gully! (minus all those crazy fairy mullets) But seriously, our friends absolutely fell in love with the place, we almost couldn't get them to leave. The four of them stayed in one of the Bird of Paradise dorms, which was perfect because they rent by the bed and since there were 4 beds and 4 of them, they had added privacy in the room by not having to share with other travelers. My husband and I were able to check out the property when we came to hang out with them and the gardens are awe inspiring, so large and so much room for relaxing. The place is cleaner than anywhere I've ever seen in my life, the kitchen is huge and stocked for an army, and there's really nothing more I can say until you see it for yourself. It's an absolute hidden gem. But I can add this, Maria & Bernie, the owners, are two of the nicest and most accommodating people you'll ever meet. They just want you to relax and have a good time, which I can most definitely say, our friends did. We've got family coming in the upcoming months & I know exactly where they'll be staying.
Maria and Bernie run an excellent guest house/lodge. They were extremely friendly, hospitable, and low-key while managing to keep the living quarters impeccably clean. The location on the north shore was also excellent for beach access and many world famous surf breaks. I would definitely stay there again.
