Very nice staff (Mark and Patty) and horseback ride was enjoyable within Pūpūkea hillside.
I did two trail rides when I was in Hawaii. This was the first. We were asked to be 30 minutes early, which we were. It's tucked away in the woods and very peaceful. We pulled up near a building with picnic tables in it. We weren't greeted right away, as the two women were probably putting horses away from the previous ride. When we were greeted, it was very brief and then the two women chatted between each other. That's okay, but we were just hanging out. I had to change into blue jeans, so I found the outhouse and small changing room next to it. The outhouse was AWFUL. It was one of the worst I've been in for a while. The changing room next to it had a big hole in the back. Granted it faced the woods, but still.....
I give this site zero stars. The phone service is outstandingly horrific. So I was running a bit late for my houreback riding appointment with my granddaughter so I thought it would be courteous to call them and see if it's alright if I'm late, or if I would need to go on the next appointment time. And the women who answers has a very very VERY bad attitude with me and my granddaughter.. I was shocked by how rude and unprofessional she was being. This incident but upset me, not to mention it was my birthday!!!! Not a good experience AT ALL.
My 11 year old really enjoyed her ride in ‘Rascal’.
I enjoyed every moment we spent at the ranch. Patty and Jody were great guide. The trails are really nice and the horses are beautiful and well taking care. I would love to come back again.
I was VERY happy to find a sink by the picnic tables with soap. I was able to wash my hands there after the ride. Too bad I didn't know about the sink after I used the gross outhouse!
Enjoyed it very much. We ended up going there as a friend wanted to go. It was great. Horses were calm and wasn't hard to persuade where to go. Guide was very friendly and knew a lot about the area. Would go there again as it was fun.
When it was finally time to go, we got a little instruction and that was fine. I asked for helmets when they didn't offer them (I grew up on horses, but never ride without a helmet). When we were put on horses, my husband, who is 6' 0", was put on a shorter horse than I was. That was okay, but I noticed that the gal had the stirrups really short. And his horse seemed kind of annoyed most of the ride. My horse was taller and really good, I kind of wish they switched us around. We all rode single file through a forest. It was a forest most of the way. While it was lovely, it was pretty much just like any forest I've been to in the Midwest or West. We got an ocean view for about 30 seconds along the way, then at the very end, it opened up into a lovely green mango tree field. I really liked that part, too. And it had a nice view of the ocean. The leader took lots of pictures of us on our horses at the end. That part was really nice, too. But most of the ride was very quiet as the leader was in front and we all rode single file along a wooded trail not able to talk very well.
Overall, the experience was fine. I didn't feel terribly welcome, and the experience was okay. I liked our other ride from another company WAY better. It went into scenery that I felt was VERY Hawaiian vs. just some woods that feel like home, and I liked the leaders from the other company better and it felt more professional than this place. I won't recommend this place to others.
