Easy last minute/same day accommodations via phone. My teen daughter and I met Mikey at the beach. Rash guard shirts and boards provided. Started on the beach with some lessons on technique and safety. Mikey is also a certified lifeguard so that gave me added piece of mind. We were in a group of 3 and he had us rotating through like clockwork catching wave after wave. We were both beginners, but we we're riding waves in no time. "Stand tall, fall. Stay low, GO!" If you're a beginner and want to learn to surf, this is the way to go.
We had an awesome time! Great instructor (Vanessa I think) who knows how to navigate the water and help beginners enjoy surfing and not getting smacked into by other beginners. Really great time and great value. We swam next to some sea turtles, which was a cool bonus.
We were a bit disappointed for two reasons:
1. We paid for a private 2 hour sesson but the lesson ended 45 mins early. We paid up front which I don't recommend.
My first surf experience ever was today with Vanessa. I could not have asked for a better trip or teacher. I will be coming back for more lessons on my next trip. I give her 5 stars because they won't let me give her 6.
2. My partner isn't a beginner and but she insisted he took 11 ft. board which made it a bit boring for him.
I booked a two hour lesson over the phone with Vanessa. The next day, I met Mikey, her husband, who was on prompt and on time. Mikey was extremely friendly and we hit it off right away. I was the only one who signed up for the day, so it was like a private lesson. We walked down to the beach with the boards. We spent about five minutes on the beach going over a few basics, then we were in the water. I was standing up on my second wave, it was incredible! Mikey is an excellent instructor, very encouraging, and makes sure you have a good time. We stayed out the full two hours, and I was wiped. I can see why some people would end their lesson early, it is fairly tiring. I would recommend this experience to anyone, especially first timers!
We did a lesson the next day with someone else and paid 40% less and had a lot more fun.
