It was a great first lesson. All the instructors were very knowledgeable and were all very personable to talk to. First time surfing for me ever and had the best time!! I highly recommend Uncle Bryan's for your surfing lessons!!
First the bad: the owner is a jerk and the lesson was only 90 minutes, not the promised two hours. I even pointed this out, saying "don't we have half an hour left?" and no one really answered me and they made us go back to the beach.

Uncle Bryan was such a sweet man and incredibly hospitable. While me and my two brothers were out in the waters getting our first lesson, him and his crew kept my parents company and my dad was adamant that I leave a great review for him :). In terms of the actual surfing, I loved it. I was especially surprised by the professional photos that were taken without me realizing! I got some great shots and of course you have to pay for them but it's worth it. We booked a private lesson and our instructor was a pro surfer who was on tour at that time (pretty cool!). I'm not sure if our private lesson was that much different from the open classes. I think either one would give you a great experience!
Loved Uncle Brayn and his staff! Our group of various skill levels was matched with Mike Cao and he was amazing! We had planned to only do one day of lessons but loved our experience so much we continued lessons with our instructor everyday for the rest of the trip. Keith the photographer took amazing pictures of each of us. This was the highlight of our trip and we will be returning soon.
That said, the lesson is fantastic. The owner is a jerk, but he's not in the water with us and the instructors were top notch. We probably had 5-6 instructors for about 7 or 8 students which was an awesome ratio, we all got lots of one on one time. I had an absolutely amazing time and would totally go back, even with the shortened time. We did a group lesson and I felt the price was still a pretty good one, even for a 90 minute lesson. We also booked fairly last minute, the night before the 8:30 am lesson, and they were very cool and accommodating about it.
