Bad- cabins are disgusting. Cockroaches and my bed would get dirt on it from the ceiling? Recommend you dont look under the bed either. The price is too expensive for what you get and you feel like they are trying to get as much money from you as possible.
Good- location for surfing. Relaxed vibe and cool people.
I'm not normally the one to write a ridiculously over exaggerated review about cleanliness etc, but this "hostel" is definitely not worth the crazy nightly price tag. We stayed in two private rooms on separate nights as they had no double beds on the first night. The rooms are make shift and really cheaply put together. The bunk beds are glued together and look like they're about to collapse. I got the feeling for the entire stay that the owners were just out to make a killer profit, which doesn't really fit in with the "hostel" name. The guy on reception is a moody, unhelpful, stuck up dude - I asked if there was any surfing nearby and he simply said "don't bother" - silly me for asking if there was any surfing on the north shore of OAHU. If I was you I'd spend 20 dollars more and get an airbnb or a hotel room. Only good thing was the location of this place.
This is a very nice hostel. I had my own room in the back house on the third floor. I stayed for 4 nights. I did not see one roach or any other pests. My room, bathroom and kitchen were very clean. I really was impressed by how clean it was, they have someone doing a good job with house keeping. There's a lot of room on the porch and kitchen. The other guests were very nice. This hostel is well managed. I would definitely stay again and highly recommend it!
I did have a good time though. Great surf and people including most of the staff! I guess when you are the only hostel on the north shore you can get away with overcharging for poor quality.
The staff at this hostel completely lack the ability to respond to emails or any other forms of inquiry. Nobody knows anything and it's not a place you could trust. The 'chill' atmosphere is more like a lack of responsibility. Which is sad because the location is very good, yet I definitely do not recommend this place. Not to mention other things that are already described in other reviews.
My fiance and I stayed an amazing week there! The location was so perfect, we hardly left north shore. So many different kind of beaches within 15 minutes walking. The room and accommodations were way better than I expected! The staff was extremely friendly also. Highly recommend this place!!
